Susan Grosser works under the auspices of Christ for the City International in Carpio, Costa Rica, a poor squatter community of San Jose. She is the nurse at the Carpio Christian Clinic in the mornings, and uses her afternoons to lead the children’s Bible clubs and women’s Bible studies.
Working alongside Sarita Bautista and other team members they teach sewing and crafts for women, parenting classes for mothers, a bakery arts course and computer classes. An extensive outreach to youth includes a Saturday program for 80+ boys and girls (ages 8-17) with sports, music, crafts and discipleship, a weekly Bible study for young people, and an annual camp. In all the various programs the central goal is that children and adults come to know Jesus personally and grow and mature in their faith.
Since the socio-political crisis began in Nicaragua several years ago, refugees from that country have been fleeing to Costa Rica and many of them have come to Carpio. The team helps to provide them with food, clothing, baby supplies and share the love of Jesus with them. Through daily devotionals in a What’sApp group of Nicaraguan moms, they share God’s Word with about 100 women every day.
