Alvin and Chio work under the auspices of Christ for the City International in Carpio, Costa Rica, a poor squatter community of San Jose. Alvin is the pastor of the local church in La Carpio that was begun through the evangelistic efforts of Christ for the City, and along with Chio is very involved in Renuevos. Renuevos is a faith based community center that provides Bible studies, tutoring for children, women’s groups including education.
Working alongside Susan Grosser and other team members, their work includes parenting classes for mothers, computers classes, an extensive outreach to youth including a Saturday program for 80+ boys and girls (ages 8-17) with sports, music, crafts and discipleship, a weekly Bible study for young people and an annual camp. In all of the various programs the central goal is that the children and adults come to know Jesus personally and grow and mature in their faith. Much of their focus is on mentoring and training new leaders within the community to continue the ministries that have already been established. Their training allows them to write proposals to secure funding for the organization, develop programs and create new projects, and train people to ensure the continuity of these initiatives.

Sarita Bautista works under the auspices of Christ for the City International in Carpio, Costa Rica, a poor squatter community of San Jose. She heads up the after-school remedial program for children (which now takes place at two different locations), teaches adult Sunday School classes, and writes Bible studies.
Working alongside Susan Grosser and other team members they teach sewing and crafts for women, parenting classes for mothers, a bakery arts course and computer classes. An extensive outreach to youth includes a Saturday program for 80+ boys and girls (ages 8-17) with sports, music, crafts and discipleship, a weekly Bible study for young people, and an annual camp. In all the various programs the central goal is that children and adults come to know Jesus personally and grow and mature in their faith.
Since the socio-political crisis began in Nicaragua several years ago, refugees from that country have been fleeing to Costa Rica and many of them have come to Carpio. The team helps to provide them with food, clothing, baby supplies and share the love of Jesus with them. Through daily devotionals in a What’sApp group of Nicaraguan moms, they share God’s Word with about 100 women every day.
